But wanted to share the feedback/desire anyway.Tutorials / 2020 New Year Marathon / Macros on MacOS – Switching from AutoHotKey to Keyboard Maestro Seriesĭay 12: 24 Insights In 24 Days – 2020 New Year Marathon! Macros on Mac OS I realize that #2 may require Obsidian to expose some kind of custom url scheme to address insulation of browser from file system. But I recognize this may not be standard practice.įor me, the ideal would be to have option to configure Quoteback browser extension so that quotebacks get stored not only to browser local storage, but also as an md file in a configurable folder (e.g., I’d config this to be my Obsidian vault), and leave in the clipboard the wiki-link name of the quoteback note so that I could then just paste into my current working note. …otherwise the source renders ‘apart’ from the quote more strongly than I’d like. Maybe that’s by design, but i would def prefer to include the source inside the block, more like this: Source: Quotebacks by Tom Critchlow and Toby Shorin Quotebacks is a tool that makes it easy to grab snippets of text from around the web and convert them into embeddable blockquote web components. That said, two feedback items from my initial playing around with it, one small (maybe fixable in the short term), the other larger (maybe will be pre-empted by the prospective integration):Ī slight formatting change to the copied markdown from a captured quoteback: when i paste the copied markdown into obsidian, only the quote itself gets quote-blocked, the source gets left outside the formatted quote, like this: So, excited to see exploring with you tight integration into Obsidian, that would be awesome. I’ve just discovered Quotebacks via post above, and i love the concept and the execution of it. Brett Terpstra’s Mardown Service ToolsĪ whole lot of Mac Services for working with Markdown, but points out that this one specifically grabs based on the URL and is not browser-specific, so should in theory work as a Safari workaround.Īnd has created a Keyboard Maestro macro using Brett Terpstra’s to extract markdown from the current Safari tab. Also it keeps a record of all of the clips you’ve made in local browser storage, so you have an ongoing list in your browswer of things you’ve clipped.Ĭhrome only. But it will also do markdown, and its formatting gets along nicely with Obsidian. It has the option to export a nicely-formatted html embed of the clip. Quotebacks takes a slightly different approach, as it’s focused around the idea of sharing quotes via open web technologies. But it does have the option to strip out specific html tags, which can be really useful. Not really designed for quoting, as it does not by default include a link to the page. Markdownizer extracts markdown from the selected area of a web page and formats it as markdown on your clipboard. You can find his post about it here.Ĭhrome only. The author,, has been very responsive in working with the Obsidian community to make using this extension just as easy for us. Super configurable, and loads of formatting options. This one has a lot of unique features, such as being able to define words as wiki links on the clipboard before copying. Named before the author discovered Obsidian, but configurable to work quite nicely with any markdown tool. ![]() Unlike most of the options here, this one downloads the markdown directly as a file, which makes it super easy to get things into your vault without copy and paste. ![]() It pops up a small window showing the markdown version of the page, from which text can be selected. ![]() Please feel free to add your suggestions below (especially more firefox options, because I haven’t played with those as much). This list is by no means comprehensive, these are just ones that I find particularly useful for different types of work. Getting information from web pages into your notes is often useful, but it’s sometimes hard to find tools for extracting markdown from html.
